About Your Tutor

I am an academic tutor and visual artist whose work, whether in a math session or my painting studio, centers on the same conviction: A complete education develops the powers of observation, reason, and imagination.

As a private tutor and mentor, I teach across all secondary mathematics (including Art of Problem Solving from Pre-Algebra through Calculus) and the sciences, including physical science, chemistry, and physics. My instruction is grounded in the Socratic method, which means teaching by way of guided questions that reveal understanding, strengthen logic, and help students learn how to think independently rather than relying on memorized algorithms.

As an artist and writer, my practice is devoted to close observation and wonder, which involves simply noticing, wondering, and reflecting. My artistic work informs my teaching, and my teaching informs my art. Both of these pursuits rely on careful attention, clear expression, and the courage to approach difficult problems with curiosity and a growth mindset.

I have a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science from the University of Arizona and a Master of Fine Art degree from Arizona State. I have been tutoring students in science and mathematics for 26 years and maintain state teaching certification in Arizona. I have a diploma in botanical art from the Society of Botanical Artists and am a Fellow of the Linnean Society and a Nature Journaling Ambassador with the Wild Wonder Foundation.

It’s important to me to help young people who truly want to learn. I work best with public school, private school, homeschooling and classical-education families who value depth over shortcuts and any student who wants to improve confidence in mathematics, science, languages, and the arts in order to better understand and navigate the world.
